Faculty / Staff News - September 2006

Barbara Trube participated as a writing team committee member for Health, Safety and Nutrition this winter, spring and summer with early childhood educators throughout Ohio.  The writing team convened by “Build Ohio” developed a document entitled “Core Knowledge and Competencies for Early Care and Education Professionals in Ohio.” The document presents the foundation for a professional development system in the field of early care and education in Ohio, as well as provides a road map for curriculum development and the organization of professional development activities.

Barbara Trube and Cheryl Gaus presented workshops for Ohio’s Pre-K/K State Institutes for Reading Instruction (SIRI) this summer. The modules are designed to provide all early childhood educators, administrators and supervisors with an in-depth understanding of critical components of early literacy skills.  Modules presented by Dr. Trube included: “Tools for Early Language and Literacy Teaching;” “Building a Foundation for Preschool Literacy;” and “Oral Language and Early Literacy.” The module presented by Mrs. Gaus was “A Way of Knowing: Observing and Recording.” Future modules will be presented by Cheryl Gaus, Jamie Harmount and Barbara Trube to early childhood educators in Ohio’s Region 7 through the Early Childhood Quality Network (Q-net).
