Educate the Tri-State
Educate the Tri-State is  a new consortium that includes seven institutions from the tri-state area near the Southern Campus.  Participating are Ohio University, Shawnee State University, Rio Grande Community College, Morehead State University (KY), Ashland Community and Technical College (KY), Marshall University, and Marshall Community and Technical College.

Key to the consortium is a searchable web site, which is still being developed.  You can view the website at www.educatethetristate.com. It will allow searches by career options or degree programs, as well as through links to the individual institutions (click on the logos).  When a program is selected, the site will take a prospective student to the admissions page of the relevant institution, as well as to a page to apply for financial aid.  Getting all the programs offered by seven institutions on the site will be a huge task, but it is underway.  Ultimately, we'd like a student, anywhere in the tri-state region, to be able to identify educational pathways from certificates to graduate degrees that are available close to home.  Reciprocity between Kentucky and Ohio (and we hope soon with West Virginia) will allow students to choose pathways that make the most sense, without worrying about which institution, in which state, has what they need.   We also hope that the site will help students discover career options they had not previously considered and that are likely to lead to employment in the region.

A second project is underway to study area needs in health care.  The study is being conducted by the George Voinovich Center.  The most immediate next step is to pursue external funding to support the consortium and to hire a director and a web master to tend to day-to-day issues.
